EARLY CHILDHOOD: Josefina was born in Castolon, Texas, in the Big Bend country. She is the third of ten children children born to Rosalio Valladares and Maria Bonifacia Godina . Her father, Rosalio Valladares died at an early age when she was a teenager. Her mother, Maria Godina Valladarez died in Altus living her last days with a daughter Gregoria (Golla) Valladres Nunez. She spent most of her growing years in the Rhineland/Knox City, Texas area, working as a farm laborer with her family. It was during this time that she met and married Jose Rios Brown.

EDUCATION: Josefina did not attend school, but for one week and did not like it, so she never went back, However, she did learn to read in Spanish and some simple arithmetic. She also spoke broken English, but very understandable. Although she never admitted to it, she probably read a little English also.

MILITARY: Josefina did not serve in the Military.

CAREER: She spent most of her life working as a farm laborer. Soon after marriage, she lived at the Pitchfork ranch where they worked grubbing mesquite tress/shrubs to clear the land for either grazing or cultivating. She also worked hoeing cotton in the summer and picking cotton in the fall and winters. Sometime around 1942, when her husband, Jose, worked in Borger, Texas in the tire manufacturing industry, making tires for the war effort, she stayed at home taking care of her four kids at the time. After moving back to the Crowell area, she continued working in the fields, sometimes taking her kids with her. She lived in differnt areas in Crowell (e.g,'the Morgan place) befroe moving into town, living in a tent until 1949 when they moved to their own house located at 702 E. Ausitn St. In the summer of 1954, the family took a trip to work in Wisconsin picking cherries, coming down towards Illinois to work in the tomatoes fields picking tomatoes. During the next 6 years, from 1955-1961, the family went to work in the beet fields in the Greeley, Colorado area from about May to September/October of each year. She continued working in the fields during the season, and worked as a domestic (sometimes as a dishwasher at a local restaurant) during the off-season for various people in Crowell. Her last employment was working as a housekeeper for Dr. and Mrs. Walter Stapp (the local physician). In !975 she moved to a house on E. Commerce provided to her by Joe, and stayed there until 1999, when she moved to the Crowell nursing Home..

OTHER ACTIVITIES: She was an avid crocheter and quilt maker. She has made various quilts for her sons and daughters. After her conversion and during her husband's tenure as Pastor of the church she was very active in the church's activities and served as President of the ladies "Concilio Missionero Femenil". After her husband's death in 1969, she was in charge of the church until it went out of existence due to lack of members, who moved from Crowell due to lack of employment. After that she attended the English speaking Assemblies of God Church in Crowell. She went to live in the nursing home in Crowell in November 1998, after her health failed her and she could not live by herself or stay with daughter Amelia, because of complications.

MARRIAGE: Josefina got married to Jose Rios Brown on October 31, 1937. She became a widow in December 9, 1969. She married Jesus Quintero in April 9. 1972. She became a widow for the second time in October 1972, and did not remarry.
